Welcome to Kindergarten

I am so excited to start another school year! I’m sure your summer has flown by as quickly as mine did. We will continue to utilize Positive Behavior Support this year with the students earning ROARs for using appropriate behaviors in school. We also use a stoplight system in our room. Students start each day in the green. If they are late to school, have a hard time following directions or do not follow the rules, they will move to the yellow zone. If they continue to have problems, they will move to the red zone and receive a minor, which is a way for us to track behaviors in school and a way to let you know what is happening at school. Please read the Student Handbook for additional information regarding discipline.

For those of you whose child is going all day, they will be having lunch in the cafeteria. I will send home a lunch menu every month so that you can decide if your child is going to eat hot lunch or bring a cold lunch from home.

We will also have our snack in the afternoon since it will be a long time between lunch at 11:10 and when they come home. There will not be snack in the morning. If your child attends all day, please help out by sending in crackers (any kind is fine, but please don’t send any cookies or other sugary snacks) for snack time. Milk will be $.35 per carton. We will only be doing snack in the afternoon, so I think maybe it will be best to give you a choice this year. If you would like to purchase milk for your child, please send money. I will need to know ahead of time which students are drinking milk so that I can get enough from the cafeteria. I have also attached a list of prices so that you can pay per quarter or for the whole year. If you would rather send a juice or have your child drink water, that would be fine, also. Students are welcome to have a water bottle at school- I try to make sure they come home at least once a week to be washed.

Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for the school day. They need to have gym shoes for PE if they are coming all day. They also need to have appropriate clothing for going outside for recess each day.

Dismissal for full-day students will be at 3:55 with the rest of the elementary students. Please keep me informed about who is picking your child up from school.

There will be a few times during the beginning of the school year that I will have to leave early for Middle School volleyball games. I am trying to arrange it so we have the same sub every time as I know this can be hard for students, especially at the beginning of the year. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I try to send home a letter at least monthly to keep parents informed about what we are doing. I will also be updating our classroom website weekly, so be sure to look at it regularly.  I send home book orders if you are interested in purchasing books for your child. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call me at ext. 2506 or talk to me before school. (I will also be available after school as soon as Middle School Volleyball is over.) Also, my email address is mgarza@northpark.k12.co.us if that is a convenient way for you to get in touch with me. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know your child and having a great school year!!
